On 9th October 2009, NASA deliberately crashed its LCROSS space probe into the surface of the moon in an effort to discover if water was present on Earth's only natural satellite. There were mixed thoughts about this experiment ranging from excitement from members of the scientific community to fear and concern that it would trigger an interstellar war with an alien race who may misinterpret this as an act of war.
